Team India qualified for the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The side began their campaign by taking on Pakistan. However, that match was washed out and abandoned as both teams shared a point. After the first game, India took on Rohit Paudel-led Nepal in the next game, where they registered an emphatic victory.
Coming in to bat first, Nepal posted 230 runs on the board in the first innings, and as rain played spoilsport throughout several stages of the game, team India got a revised target of 145 runs to chase down in 23 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put forth amazing performances during the run chase and led India to a 10-win victory. Rohit scored 74* runs in 59 deliveries, whereas Gill scored 67* runs in 62 deliveries. Their brilliant knocks helped India win the game and qualify for the Super Four stage.
Seeing the win, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came forward to state that this win would do the team a world of good. He opined that they were playing Nepal for the first time and did not know the shots that the batters could play. He further stated that this win will provide some much-needed confidence to India.
“As a team, we won by 10 wickets, so the overall confidence is good. As a team, you need that win before the big games. This is a good win for the team. We were playing Nepal for the first time and did not know what shots they could play,” Ravindra Jadeja said in a video shared by the BCCI.
“Nepal were off to a great start, and we did not know about the strength of the team. We did not know about their go-to shots. Me and Kuldeep came and controlled the game as it is not easy to hit the spinners in the middle overs. I just concentrated on bowling stump to stump,” he added.
A clinical 10-wicket win ✅
