India registered a brilliant win against Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the ongoing series, defeating the hosts by 43 runs. India put in an excellent performance with both the bat and the ball. The clash began with the Men in Blue coming in to bat first and posting a total of 213 runs in the first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill propelled India to a good start, as both batters scored 40 and 34 runs, respectively. After the game, Gill took centre stage and talked about how much he loves batting alongside Jaiswal.

Gill opined that he and Jaiswal complement each other, and despite their different batting styles, they can formulate plans to take on the bowlers and put a big score on the scoreboard.

“Not really (panicked). We spoke about having good communication and we knew we just needed one wicket (when SL were 140/1). It is great batting with him (Jaiswal) and we complement each other. Our style is different, our plan is simple – assess the conditions and then take on the bowlers. When you are opening the innings, see how the pitch is behaving and play accordingly (that’s the plan),” Gill said in the post-match presentation.

India take on Sri Lanka in the second T20I on July 28

Speaking of the series, after posting a total of 213 runs on the board, India managed to limit Sri Lanka to a score of 170, winning the game by 43 runs and taking the lead in the series.

Being 1-0 up, India will now shift their focus onto the second T20I right away. Both sides will continue the series by facing off for the second game on Sunday, July 28 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. After a resilient showing, India will hope for a similar performance and will aim to clinch the series. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will hope to level the series by registering a win.
