We need to improve and think what we need to do in final game

In a low-scoring thriller at the DY Patil Stadium, the Indian women’s cricket team faced a setback, conceding a six-wicket defeat to Australia in the second T20I, thereby leveling the series at 1-1.

India, batting first, posted a total of 130/8, with Deepti Sharma’s significant contribution of 31. Despite her dual efforts with the bat and ball, including a commendable spell that secured two wickets, India’s score fell short against the formidable Australian side.

Addressing the post-match presentation, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that the posted score was insufficient, emphasizing the need for improved fielding efforts.

“The score was not enough on the board but our bowlers did really well and we took the game to the 19th over, but the way we fielded was filled with errors and we have to think about the areas we want to improve,” Harman said as quoted by India Today.

Harmanpreet expressed disappointment over losing wickets and acknowledged Australia’s strong bowling performance. Despite the loss, she remained optimistic about the potential for improvement in the final game.

“When we were in the middle, we were thinking 150 would be a good total but we kept losing wickets and few overs were bowled really well by Australia, but yeah we need to improve and think what we need to do in the final game,” added Harmanpreet.

Earlier, India’s fielding lapses compounded their challenges, providing missed opportunities for the Australian batters to capitalize. Ellyse Perry, marking her 300th international game, played a pivotal unbeaten innings of 34 runs, steering Australia to victory. Phoebe Litchfield also played a vital role with a quick 18 not out, including two crucial fours in the penultimate over that effectively sealed the game for Australia.

Despite the defeat, Harmanpreet Kaur commended the positive outlook of the young Indian side, expressing confidence in their continuous improvement.

“[While Bowling] we were getting those opportunities and taking wickets in the middle, that’s a positive. If Shreyanaka was on target in the 19th over, things would have been different but these close games help to identify areas to improve.”

“We have played these games a lot of time but this time we have a few new faces, this young side is looking very positive and I’m sure they will keep improving,” she remarked, highlighting the team’s resilience and potential for growth.
