Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) outclassed the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru to seal their playoff berth in the Indian Premier League 2024. CSK needed just 17 runs off the final over to qualify for the playoffs despite a loss. But Yash Dayal held his nerves and gave away just seven runs as RCB cruised to victory. After the win, RCB players were ecstatic and overwhelmed and as per Former England captain Michael Vaughan showed ‘indecency’ towards MS Dhoni.

Dhoni was dejected as the game was in the grasp of the defending champions. He was evidently unhappy but waited for Bengaluru players to shake hands. But the Men-in-Red were drowned in the joy of victory and the former CSK captain left congratulating the host’s support staff. The incident did not fit well with Vaughan and lambasted RCB players for treating the legend in such a manner.

“If there was ever a time for a group of players to show awareness, we don’t know, if that was MS Dhoni’s last game and those players have run around the ground doing handstands when all they need to do is wait, ‘the legend’s over there. We have to just go and shake his hand,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“You shake hands and then do your cartwheels and stuff. I wouldn’t want to be an RCB player waking up tomorrow morning thinking MS Dhoni has just announced his retirement and we didn’t have the decency to go and shake his hand first,” he added.

Fans pondering over Dhoni’s potential swansong

The match was potentially the last Dhoni would be featuring as per many pundits. However, the wicket-keeper batter had hinted that his last T20 game would be in Chennai, his second home. To add further fuel to growing rumours, his close aide Suresh Raina quashed any possibility of him retiring.

As the grapevine is abuzz, one can only wait as the mega auctions get underway ahead of the next IPL season to know Dhoni’s availability.
