WCL 2024: Yuvraj Singh turns back the clock with flamboyant knock against Australia Champions

Yuvraj Singh turned back the clock as he was seen in his vintage form during the World Championship of Legends semifinal game against Australia Champions on July 12. The former India all-rounder came into bat at number four and unleashed mayhem against Aussies. He scored a quickfire 59 off just 25 balls laced with four boundaries and five maximums at a strike rate of 210.71 before getting caught and bowled by Peter Siddle.

The former southpaw has a long history of performing against the dominant Australia during his playing days. He smashed 70 off 30 against them in T20 World Cup 2007 game and the 2011 World Cup quarter-final knock just added to his prowess. The intense game in Mohali saw the flamboyant batter steer India to victory with an unbeaten 57 off 65 balls. Now retired, the batter provided glimpses of his peak self during the WCL game as India reached the finals.

WCL is the debut tournament where the former players from their respective countries vie for the championship title in the T20 format. Australia Champions, India Champions, South Africa Champions, England Champions, Pakistan Champions, and West Indies Champions contested in the league stages as India and Pakistan made it to the final, to be played on July 13. Australia managed to win four out of five games in the league stages but succumbed to India in the semifinal by 86 runs.

Talking about the game, Australia Champions won the toss and opted to bowl first at the County Ground in Northampton. On the back of half-centuries from Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan, Australia were provided a daunting target of 255. In reply, Australia managed just 168 runs as Dhawal Kulkarni and Pawan Negi plucked two wickets each.
