The International Cricket Council (ICC) finally lifted the lid on the schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup hosted by India to the delight of cricket fans all over the world. While England’s campaign opener against New Zealand, a replay of last edition’s final, caught the eye, Pakistan’s much-anticipated clash against India was the highlight of the World Cup Schedule.

The Men in Green, who were involved in a tug-of-war with the BCCI over their participation in the tournament, will kick off their campaign with a clash against one of the qualifying teams from the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. They will play the other qualifying team in their second outing, with both of their opening fixtures taking place in Hyderabad.

Following their two opening fixtures, Pakistan will reignite their rivalry against nemesis India in a blockbuster fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venue for the fierce encounter was also a topic of hot debate between the respective boards in the lead-up to the announcement of the schedule.

The game against India will be followed by another tough fixture for the Asian giants as they will be up against five-time champions Australia at the Chinnaswamy. A game against Proteas will further test their credentials, sandwiched between relatively simpler fixtures against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

However, their round-robin fixtures will be concluded with tricky fixtures against New Zealand in Bengaluru, followed by the final match against defending champions England in Kolkata. Pakistan will have to bring their A-game to the table if they wish to finish in the top four spots in the World Cup Points Table, qualifying for the semi-finals.
