Watch: West Indies arrive for Test series in Pakistan after 18 years

The West Indies cricket team landed in Islamabad on Monday, January 6 for their historic Test series against Pakistan, making it their first visit to the country for this format in 18 years with the team’s last Test tour to Pakistan being way back in 2006. Though they have made occasional trips for white-ball series in the period.

The two-match series will be the final series for both teams in the current cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). Despite neither team being in contention for the WTC final at Lord’s, the series is crucial for their continued development and the opportunity to improve their standings in the competition.

The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side will play a series of important matches starting with a three-day tour game against Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad on January 10. Following the warm-up match, the team will lock horns with the national side for the first Test, scheduled to begin on January 17, 2025, in Multan. The second Test will be played at the same venue, beginning on January 25, 2025.

Talking about the home team, Pakistan are currently battling with South Africa in the second Test in Cape Town. The series is in favour of the Proteas right now but Pakistan will look to win it and make it even-steven.

Cricket West Indies has named a 15-member squad for this tour. The squad features the left-handed batter Amir Jangoo, who earned his maiden Test call-up following a strong ODI performance against Bangladesh. Additionally, Gudakesh Motie, who had been unavailable for the previous Tests against Bangladesh, returns to the squad, strengthening the visitors’ bowling attack.
