Not only is Washington Sundar turning out to be a marvel with the ball during the ongoing Test between India and New Zealand, he also contributed with a brilliant piece of fielding in the morning session of Day 3 at Pune’s MCA Stadium.
Ajaz Patel, having scored a solitary run in the 11 deliveries he faced, tried to break the shackles by launching one over the stands in a bid to up the ante and keep the rate of scoring steady. A fullish delivery by Ravindra Jadeja was slog-swept by Patel, who seemed to have got a good piece of it on the looks of the sound the ball made off the bat. However, it was Sundar who sprawled across the deep midwicket fence like a cheetah to pouch the ball while running to his right.

Jadeja’s strikes dent NZ opportunity of gaining healthy lead
Unsurprisingly, it was the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin who opened the bowling for India on Day 3. While Ashwin did not seem as likely as dismissing the batters, it was Jadeja who struck in his fourth over after troubling the well-set Tom Blundell with his variations. Blundell, playing for the turn, was beaten past his inside edge as his timber was disturbed.

Jadeja’s next scalp was of the man of the previous innings, Mitchell Santner. Santner went for the big one over long-on. Unfortunately for him, all he could is toe-end it into the hands of Jasprit Bumrah to halt the visitor’s progress all of a sudden.
