Watch: Virat Kohli reminds umpire of KL Rahul’s controversial Perth dismissal in Adelaide Test (Source: X/Twitter)
India and Australia are fighting it out in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. On Day 2 of the Pink Ball Test, the Indian bowlers made a comeback by picking three wickets to start. Subsequently, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh were at the crease and were looking to dig their base for a long innings. India captain, Rohit Sharma introduced Ravichandran Ashwin to tackle the duo.
Ashwin had a rough start as Head thrashed him over the rope a few times. But the spinner made Marsh ponder by nearly catching him plumb in front of the wicket. The umpire refused to budge as the Indian team appealed, they decided to go upstairs. The DRS replays could not conclude the hairline difference between the bat and the pad, as to which one came in contact with the ball first.
The incident reminded KL Rahul’s dismissal which was on similar lines. However, the umpire had adjudged the India batter as out despite there being an option of the former availing a benefit of the doubt. When the incident aligned amicably with his teammate’s unfortunate dismissal, former India Virat Kohli, did not hesitate to remind the on-field umpire of Rahul’s decision during Perth Test.
“KL’s was the same in Perth, two spikes bat, and pad,” Virat said to the umpire.
Here are the videos of Virat’s conversation and Marsh’s DRS:
Third umpire couldn’t recognise whether it’s bat or pad first and declared batter as not out

The umpiring blunder was at its peak as the third umpire did not even think of opting for the ball-tracking option. Just when two spikes appeared, though he did not give another thought on the otherwise, he stayed with the on-field decision. Moreover, India lost a review where they were not provided an option of saving their lifeline with an umpire’s call if the bat had not touched the ball.
