After a poor outing with the bat in India’s first Test against Bangladesh at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, star batter Virat Kohli headed to the practice nets while his teammates were piling on the runs.

The right-handed batter had a forgettable outing as he was dissmised for just six runs in the first innings, chasing a wide delivery, and then fell for 17 in the second, as he was trapped lbw by spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Notably, Kohli opted against reviewing the on-field decision only to learn that he would have survived as the ball had brushed off his bat before hitting his pad.

While Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored magnificent centuries, pushing India’s lead beyond 500, Kohli chose to head to the nets to practice. Accompanying him was, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 35-year-old was seen working on his technique against pace bowling, particularly deliveries outside the off-stump.

Since 2021, Kohli’s Test record, particularly in Asia, has been below his standards. In 14 Tests, he has managed just 654 runs at an average of 29.72. The dip in form, especially against spin, has been a talking point among cricket pundits.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are struggling at 158/4 at stumps on Day 3, and need 357 runs more runs to win, with two more days of play remaining. For the hosts, R Ashwin has been brilliant with the ball in the second innings, picking three crucial wickets.
