Star India batter Virat Kohli looked in sublime form leading to the Day-Night Test in Adelaide. He has a terrific record in the stadium but failed to get going in the second Test against Australia. Over the last few years, the cricketer has faced trouble in dealing with balls that are pitched in the fifth-wicket line and the Adelaide Test was no different. The 36-year-old started well, smashing a boundary to Scott Boland before Mitchell Starc got the better of him in the 21st over of the game.
It seemed that Kohli was attempting to leave the delivery at first but changed his mind as the ball was traveling. In case he had left the ball, it would have carried to the keeper but the India International tried to play a late drive but then at the last moment, he once again changed his mind and tried to leave. However, he was late in doing so as the ball hit his bat until then and went to Steve Smith, who was stationed in the second slip.

Kohli then looked at the pitch and the toe end of the bat before walking back to the pavilion. He departed for seven runs. On the other end, Starc had a terrific day, picking up the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul before dismissing Kohli. Soon after that, Scott Boland picked up the wicket of Shubman Gill, who departed for 31 runs. With that, India was restricted to 81/4.

Captain Rohit Sharma demoted to number six will play a key role in resurrecting India in Adelaide. His partnership with Rishabh Pant will be vital and that can be the defining factor for the visitors in the first innings. The team didn’t start well but Rahul and Gill built an important partnership Australia dominated in the last 20 minutes of the first session, in which, India lost three quick wickets.
