WATCH: Veterans at Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 reminisce younger selves through, video goes viral

There was a pleasant surprise for the seasoned veterans at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as the organizers induced a trip down memory lane for a handful of experienced cricketers. Representatives of the social media team of the International Cricket Council made their way to the hotel in which the participating teams had been booked at. One by one, they approached a list of battle-hardened cricketers with a laminated photograph of theirs from the past, asking them to sign their respective stills.

The cricketers reached out to were Nat Sciver-Brunt, Marizanne Kapp, Sophie Ecclestone, Laura Wolvaardt, Heather Knight, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deandra Dottin, Chamari Athapaththu, and Suzie Bates. The aforementioned array of them, who did not know that the pictures were in fact them from a really long time back during when they had just stepped foot on the international scene, had quite a lot of contrasting reactions on seeing their youthful versions. Some of them were that of utter embarrassment, surges of astonishment, pure surprise, and loads of nostalgia.

Wolvaardt delighted to sign photograph of herself with “favourite cricketer” Kohli

Wolvaardt, the skipper of South Africa Women, was handed out a picture of her standing alongside ace India batter, Virat Kohli. It was the same picture she posted on Instagram on February 1, 2020. While signing the piicture, she called Kohli as her “favourite cricketer”.

The top-order batter has been in fine nick in the ongoing tournament. In the three innings she has featured in so far, Wolvaardt has scored 141 runs. Running between the wickets has brought her more runs as compared to via boundaries (75 vs 66), as she would be aiming to cap off the group-stage on a high as her side faces Bangladesh Women in their final Group B encounter today.
