Temba Bavuma got into an awkward tangle on Day 2 of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Kingsmead, Durban on Thursday, November 28.

The incident occurred when the South African captain stood at the non-striker’s end in the 22nd over of the first innings. His thumb got stuck in the helmet’s grill and the right-handed batter struggled to pull it out even as Lahiru Kumara ran in to bowl the fifth delivery of the 22nd over. The video of the hilarious incident didn’t take too long to go viral on social media.

Bavuma has been excellent for the Proteas in the first Test. The 34-year-old scored a gritty 70 off 117 balls in the first innings to help the hosts recover from a score of 117/7 and get to a respectable 191 before being bowled out.

Marco Jansen picked up his career-best Test figures of 7/13 as Sri Lanka were rolled over for 42 in 13.5 overs. South Africa took a massive 149-run lead in the first innings. In the second innings, the home side declared for 366/5 after Tristan Stubbs and Bavuma smashed centuries. While Stubbs contributed with a 221-ball 122, Bavuma made 113 off 228 deliveries.

In the fourth innings, the visiting side landed up in huge trouble as they lost half their side for 103 runs at the end of Day 3. Dinesh Chandimal and captain Dhananjaya de Silva will continue proceedings on Saturday, which could be the final day of the Test match if the weather Gods stay kind.

Jansen has been on the mark once again as he has accounted for two wickets in the fourth innings. Kagiso Rabada has also bagged two wickets, while Gerald Coetzee has also chipped in with the dismissal of Pathum Nissanka.
