Former Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan, arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Friday. There was a deluge of supporters who surrounded him as he made his way out of the VIP terminal of the infrastructure. Dhawan was spotted sporting the customary Nepali ‘Dhaka Topi

Dhawan’s decision to feature in the Nepal Premier League for Karnali Yaks came promptly after him getting released by his Indian Premier League franchise, Punjab Kings. There were no takers for the IPL great at the mega auction of the cash-rich league. 

A sea of Dhawan and NPL supporters turned up dancing to the tunes of some pompous music on the occasion of Dhawan’s arrival. He was also tracked down and directed attention while sitting in a car, which was arranged for him to take him from the airport to the hotel at which his teammates were residing.

I am excited to play matches with local and Nepali players: Dhawan

The dashing former India batter was excited to kickstart proceedings for the Yaks. He also suggested that he would love to do some sightseeing apart from the cricketing action. 

“This is my first ever visit to Nepal. I am happy that I am here to play in the Nepal Premier League for Karnali Yaks. I am excited to play the matches with the local players and Nepali (national team) players as well as to put on a good show. Along with Nepal for which it is famous, the Pashupatinath Temple and Mount Everest, I will try to
visit those places and experience it,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by ANI.

The league which is set to commence on November 30, will see the likes of Ben Cutting, Unmukt Chand, Ravi Bopara, Chadwick Walton, and Marchant de Lange feature. All games will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, situated in Kirtipur.
