India Capitals win off the last ball, playoff hopes are all but over for Gujarat Greats
Gujarat Greats were desperately hoping for a win on Monday to stay in contention for a spot in the playoffs. However, they suffered a four-wicket defeat to India Capitals off the last ball as Dhawan and Co. have very little chance of progressing beyond the league stage.
Dhawan was dismissed after scoring a solitary run but Chris Gayle’s whirlwind and 21 (11) and Mohammad Kaif’s 41-ball 40 steadied the ship after Gujarat won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the end, Debabrata Das hit a brisk 20* off 13 balls to take his team to 134/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, India Capitals captain Ian Bell held one end up as he played an unbeaten knock of 41 off 49 balls. Ben Dunk (22) and Bharat Chipli (22) made important contributions down the order and so did Ashley Nurse. Manan Sharma’s excellent spell of 4/24 went in vain as Bell took a single off the last ball to secure victory.
