New Zealand once again toppled Pakistan as they secured a comfortable five-wicket victory in the second T20I of the five-match series. During the match a funny incident took place involving all-rounder Shadab Khan and the young fans at the boundary line.
The moment occurred during New Zealand’s chase when Finn Allen smashed a six off Mohammad Ali’s bowling on the third delivery of the second over. The ball went over the long-off boundary, where Shadab was stationed. As he collected the ball, some young fans near the fence asked him if they could hold it. Shadab took the ball close to them, making it seem like he would hand it over. However, just as they reached out, he funnily pulled it back, smiled, and threw it back onto the field of play.
Shadab Khan took a flying catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell
Meanwhile, the Kiwis’ five-wicket victory gave them a 2-0 lead in the ongoing series. The Dunedin match was shortened to 15 overs per side due to rain, with the visitors posting a total of 135. Notably, Shadab made headlines for his fielding efforts. On the fifth ball of the 13th over, he pulled off a stunning diving catch at cover to dismiss Daryl Mitchell off Haris Rauf’s bowling. The batter attempted a back-foot punch, but the ball flew towards the Pakistani all-rounder, who dived full length to his right and grabbed it with both hands.
In the match, the Men in Green were asked to bat first and had a shaky start with Hasan Nawaz dismissed for a second consecutive duck. Mohammad Haris’ dismissal added to their woes as the scorecard read 19/2. Salman Agha’s 46 off 28 balls was the only fighting knock from Pakistan’s innings, with Shadab adding 26 off 14 balls. However, the Kiwi bowlers restricted the opposition to a gettable total.
In reply, Tim Seifert (45 off 22) and Finn Allen (38 off 16) began the chase brilliantly with an explosive 66-run opening partnership. Although the tourists tried to fight back with wickets from Mohammad Ali, Jahandad Khan, Khushdil Shah, and Haris Rauf, the BlackCaps reached the target with 11 balls to spare, thanks to efforts from Mitchell Hay (21*) and skipper Michael Bracewell.
