Sam Curran was in red-hot form in The Hundred 2024 encounter between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles at the Lord’s on Sunday, August 4. The Northampton-born’s excellent all-round effort helped Sam Billings’ side register a comfortable 30-run win to climb to the top of the points table.

In the first innings, opener Dawid Malan played a decent knock of 38 off 29 balls but the rest of the top-order batters failed to live up to their potential. Curran came in to bat at No. 5 and played a magnificent knock of 51 not out off just 22 balls, slamming six maximums. His destructive innings helped the Invincibles finish on 147/5 in their quota of 100 deliveries. For London Spirit, Olly Stone, Liam Dawson, Dan Lawrence, and Matthew Critchley bagged one wicket apiece.

In reply, London Spirit got off to a quick start but Invincibles used their spinners to good effect as they accounted for the top-five batters in the opposition lineup. The rest of the damage was done by Curran. He started with the wicket of Critchley off the 87th ball of the innings. The left-arm pacer followed it up with a dot ball before picking the wickets of Liam Dawson, Olly Stone, and Andre Russell to claim his maiden hat-trick in The Hundred 2024. The wicket of Russell was the final nail in the coffin and four balls later, the 26-year-old dismissed Daniel Worrall to wrap up the innings.
