Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, was spotted letting out words of frustration after Rachin Ravindra smacked the first maximum of the game during Champions Trophy 2025 final clash against New Zealand on Sunday, March 9. New Zealand had gotten off to a positive start with the bat after winning the toss.

The reaction of Rohit came after the left-handed Rachin dispatched a 134 kph back-of-a-length delivery by Hardik Pandya with elegant poise over the cow corner fence. Standing tall, the Kiwi opener had no hesitation in absolutely smashing the ball over the ropes, and the Indian captain was certainly not amused with his reaction that went viral.

Interestingly, Rohit lost the toss for the 12th successive time in ODIs, as Mitchell Santner had no hesitation to bat first. This was also the 15th time on the trot that India had lost the toss in the 50-over format. While India made no changes to their XI, New Zealand were forced to bring in Nathan Smith as a replacement for Matt Henry. The right-arm quick suffered from an awkward landing on his right shoulder during the Kiwis’ semi-final win against South Africa.

Kuldeep castles Rachin to curb run flow

The manner in which Rachin had started off with his innings made it seem as if a big score was on the cards. However, a peach of a googly by Kuldeep Yadav brought an end to Rachin’s stay at the crease. The southpaw was the second wicket to fall, as the unorthodox spinner struck with his very first delivery in the finale.

Varun Chakravarthy’s second over brought about the end of Will Young. The wicket ball drifted in towards Young, who played all around it to get trapped plumb in front. The TV replay showed that it would go on to smash the middle and leg stump. The Indian spinners’ aim would be to put the squeeze on the Kiwi middle-order during the phase post the first powerplay.
