India skipper Rohit Sharma was welcomed with a grand salute and hugs by his friends and family upon returning to his residence after the T20 World Cup win. The 37-year-old had a packed schedule on July 4, which included reaching a meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Later, the entire team was part of historic celebrations at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After the celebrations at Wankhede finished, Rohit departed for his apartment where he was welcomed with immense love. Youngster Tilak Varma was also present for the celebrations at Rohit’s apartment. He along with a few others also imitated Rohit’s special walk that he did while collecting the coveted trophy on June 29 in Barbados. He was later lifted by the people in attendance and was welcomed with a garland.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s video with his mother went viral on social media. His mother Poornima Sharma had a doctor’s appointment on the day of the celebration but she cancelled that to witness the celebrations at Wankhede. In the video, Poornima was seen kissing her child on the forehead and cheeks as media personnel were in attendance to record the special moment.

“I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day,” Poornima told The Indian Express.

“I can’t express my happiness. Look at the cheering. I have never experienced this kind of atmosphere. The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. I’m the happiest mother today,” she added.
