Star India batter Rishabh Pant has redefined the art of batting in Test cricket. He is not shy to play unorthodox shots in the longest format of the game and his off-balance and one-handed sixes have gained immense popularity.

Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri opened up on Pant’s playing style during the second Test between Australia and India in Adelaide. Pant batted well to finish Day 2 and also unleashed a few of his trademark shots in his short innings.

Looking at that, Shastri asked Adam Gilchrist whether the former cricketer shared some advice with the keeper-batter when they met on the morning of day 3 when Pant notoriously walked from behind and blindfolded Gilchrist with his hands in a heartwarming moment.

“Caught me by surprise there. I didn’t know who that was behind me,” Gilchrist said while talking to Fox Sports.

“It was wicket-keeper’s reunion. What was that chat, Gilly (Gilchrist)? I am sure he must have asked you, ‘Can you show me some new shots to play? Can I score at a quicker rate just like you did and bat for longer periods of time and get hundreds? Well, he’s that kind of a player. He gets bored. He wants something new all the time. This is a reverse scoop, a switch. Don’t be surprised if he tries something like this in the morning (of Day 3),” said Shastri.

Pant couldn’t carry on with the momentum on Day 3 as he departed for 28 runs while Nitish Kumar Reddy made 42 as India posted 175 runs in the second innings. Australia had to chase only 19 runs and the hosts did that with absolute ease as they won by 10 wickets. The third game of the series will be played in Brisbane, slated to begin on December 14.
