Talismanic Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan etched his name into the record books by surpassing West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in the T20 format. Rashid achieved this magnificent feat during MI Cape Town’s Qualifier One encounter against Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025 at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, on Tuesday, February 4.

Rashid took a couple of wickets to take his wickets tally to 633 from 461 matches. He went past Bravo’s record of 631 wickets from 582 T20 matches. Rashid’s bowling average is a phenomenal 18.07, with best figures of 6/17. His economy rate is also a commendable 6.49. The 26-year-old has four five-wicket hauls to his name in the shortest format.

“It’s a great achievement. I never thought about it, if you asked 10 years before this if I would get there. It’s a proud feeling to be from Afghanistan and to be at that level where you top the table. DJ (Bravo) is one of the best T20 bowlers. It’s a great honour and I’m looking forward to continuing,” Rashid told the broadcaster.

In reply, the Royals lost three wickets in the first five overs and never really recovered. Dinesh Karthik and captain David Miller tried with all their experience but their efforts went in vain. The Royals were bowled out for 160 in 19.4 overs. They will have another chance to reach the finals as they will play in Qualifier 2 on Thursday, February 6, against the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Job.
