India Women took on New Zealand in the second ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, October 27. The visiting skipper won the toss and opt to bat. The visitors were cruising in the powerplay having 46 runs without losing any wicket. Their openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer were all set and ready to go big, unless Radha Yadav pulled Plimmer back.
Deepti Sharma was bowling the 16th over of the innings and bowled an off-cutter on good length to Plimmer on middle and leg. The right-handed batter tried to flick it and did not get the major part of the bat. The ball flew to the right of Radha and she displayed great athleticism to pluck the ball as Plimmer walked back, scoring 41 off 50 balls.

Priya Mishra debuts for India as Harmanpreet Kaur returns
It is worth noting that India won the first match of the series emphatically by 59 runs. Ahead of the second ODI, the White Ferns dealt with a huge blow as their star player, Amelia Kerr was ruled of the remainder of the series due to a quadriceps tear. On the other hand, India captain, Harmanpreet Kaur had missed the first game due to a niggle but made a comeback in the second ODI. India had roped in spinner Tejal Hasabnis who made her debut in the first game.

Moreover, India made certain changes to their playing XI. Priya Mishra made her debut as D Hemalatha and Renuka Singh Thakur were rested. It is worth mentioning that Priya was the leading wicket-taker in the senior women’s one-day trophy for the season 2023-24, as she claimed 23 wickets. New Zealand too entered with changes as they brought Fran Jonas and Lea Tahuhu in place of Amelia Kerr and Molly Penfold.
