WATCH: Rachin Ravindra bleeds profusely after losing ball in Lahore floodlights; video goes viral

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra was left bleeding excessively from his forehead during Match 1 of the Tri-Nation Series against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Fielding at deep square-leg, Ravindra lost the ball in the floodlights as it approached him. The ball hit him flush on the face, with Ravindra unmoved for a minute.

The incident plunged the venue into complete silence as the crowd as well as the New Zealand side looked shocked at what had transpired off a slog-sweep by Khushdil Shah.

An icepack was placed on his forehead to curb the flow of blood, as he made his way out of the playing field. The over resumed after a few minutes, with Michael Bracewell conceding five runs in the three deliveries to follow. Pakistan were 204/5 at the end of that over, the 37th of the hosts’ innings. Earlier in the day, Ravindra was dismissed for a 19-ball 25.

Pakistan fall short by 78 runs to lose series opener

No other batter apart from Fakhar Zaman (84 off 69) could go past the 40-run mark as Pakistan were skittled for 252 in 47.5 overs. Mitchell Santner starred with 3/41 in his 10-over quota. Henry was the other New Zealander to end up with a three-wicket haul. Bracewell ended up with the same figures as Santner, albeit with one less wicket to his name.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand found themselves looking at ending up with a sub-par score after being five wickets down at 207 after 40 overs. A scintillating power-packed display by Glenn Phillips, who brought up his maiden ODI ton, was the driving force because of which the tourists ended up at a competitive 330 at the end of 50 overs. New Zealand will next face South Africa on Monday, February 10.
