On the same day that Major League Cricket (MLC) launched its inaugural season at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas Super Kings captain, Faf du Plessis, celebrated his 39th birthday in style. Following his team’s resounding 69-run victory against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the opening match of the USA’s new franchise tournament.
Despite du Plessis being dismissed for a golden duck, Texas Super Kings posted a commendable total of 181/6, courtesy of blazing half-centuries from Devon Conway (55) and David Miller (61). In reply, Knight Riders’ batting order was left reeling by the Pakistan-born leg-spinner, Mohammad Mohsin, who delivered an exceptional performance with figures of 4 for 8. Gerald Coetzee (2/22) and Rusty Theron (2/16) also made significant contributions as Knight Riders were bowled out for a mere 112 runs in just 14 overs.
Faf Du Plessis took the time to sign autographs for thrilled fans in the stands. As the South African cricketer graciously signed the yellow flags of his team’s ardent supporters, a section of the crowd erupted into a chorus of “Happy Birthday” to honour their captain. The heartwarming moment was captured on video by Twitter user Peter Della Penna, who promptly shared the footage on his account, delighting cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

Released by CSK, acquired by RCB, now leading Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket
Back in 2021-22, he was released by CSK, and in a surprising turn of events, du Plessis was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK’s traditional rival, during the mega auction of IPL 2022, where he was subsequently appointed as their captain. Earlier this year, du Plessis captained the Joburg Super Kings, a sister franchise of CSK, in the first season of the SA20 tournament. Now, he finds himself leading yet another team owned by Chennai Super Kings, this time in the thrilling realm of Major League Cricket.
As du Plessis embarks on a new chapter of his illustrious career, cricket fans eagerly await more captivating performances and memorable moments from the seasoned South African star. With his experience and leadership skills, du Plessis is undoubtedly a valuable asset to Texas Super Kings and a force to be reckoned with in the MLC.
