On Day 3 of the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, pacer Khurram Shahzad bowled two spectacular deliveries. The similar lengths first dismantled the off stump of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and later the same line crashed onto Mominul Haque’s stumps.

Notably, the hosts having declared their first innings at a formidable score of 448 runs, put the visitors on the back foot. The Bangla Tigers began to build a strong response with Shanto and Haque at the forefront of their efforts. However, the Pakistani pacer had other ideas.

The first moment came in the 27th over of Bangladesh’s innings, Shanto who was batting on just 16 runs was looking to convert the strong start given by the openers to a big total. The southpaw tried to defend the angling bowl but missed the line of the ball which left a huge gap between his bat and pad, ultimately uprooting his off stump. Meanwhile, for Haque who had just reached his half-century and was looking set for a big score.

He stitched a 94-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim that gave Bangladesh hope to reduce the deficit. The Pakistani pacer struck on the first delivery of the 52nd over and sent the inform batter packing. The ball, delivered from around the wicket, was pitched full and swung sharply back into the left-handed Mominul. The late movement caught the batter off guard, finding the narrow gap between bat and pad. Before Mominul could react, the ball had zipped past his defences and shattered the stumps spectacularly.

Rahim-Das looking to revive Bangladesh after half the side got dismissed

The visitors are currently batting on 269/5 with Rahim (42* off 94) and Litton Das (27 off 37) still on the crease after the completion of the 84th over. The side trails by 220 runs and is hoping that these two experienced batters put up an important partnership to inch closer to the opposition’s first-inning score.
