Leading to the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground, several videos of Virat Kohli went viral on social media, in which, the 36-year-old was seen instructing Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna to bowl outside off-stump and he was leaving them. In the first innings of the Test, Kohli looked disciplined as he was leaving the balls well but a run-out might have disrupted his concentration, leading to him getting a nick of the same delivery.
In the second innings, Kohli once again got out to the outside off-side trap. Australia had no other plan against the former India captain as they pitched the ball in the same region time and again but the cricketer didn’t fall prey initially. Just before Lunch, Mitchell Starc finally had the last laugh as Kohli couldn’t control his urge to play a drive and ended up nicking one to Usman Khawaja, who was stationed in the first slip.

In the final over before Lunch, the veteran pro was expected to keep his nerves in check as the visitors were already under pressure, having lost two early wickets. However, a lapse in concentration ended his stay as Kohli departed for five runs. Mitchell Starc, who has been terrific in the first session was jubilant following the dismissal as Australia inched a step closer to win the Melbourne Test.

The star India batter started the series with a terrific century in Perth, that helped the visitors pick up a comfortable 295-run win. Since then, Kohli has failed to live up the expectations as he has scored only 167 runs in four matches at an average of 27.83. There has been plenty of talks regarding the future of the senior cricketers in Test cricket and if Kohli fails to improve, the team management may look beyond him as chief selector Ajit Agarkar previously intended.
