New Zealand batter Tim Robinson showcased agility similar to Glenn Phillips’ by executing a spectacular flying catch at point to dismiss Shadab Khan. This moment occurred during the first T20I against Pakistan at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday, March 16. The dismissal deepened the visitors’ troubles as they slumped to 11-4 in the series opener.

Returning to the national squad, Shadab Khan was unable to make an impact after coming in to bat at No.5. He stepped onto the crease in the third over with his team struggling at 1-3, following an impressive opening spell from Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy.

The batter dove full stretch to make a stunning catch, a feat that is becoming a common occurrence for the Blackcaps. Glenn Phillips has executed similar acrobatic catches in this area, including dismissals of Muhammad Rizwan and Virat Kohli in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Pakistan were restricted to 11 with the loss of four wickets in 4.4 overs after Shadab Khan’s dismissal. With this, Jamieson took his third wicket and finished the Pakistan innings with impressive figures of 3 wickets from his four overs and gave up just eight runs.

Pakistan struggled to recover from the top-order collapse caused by New Zealand’s seamers. Khushdil Shah was the highest scorer with 32 runs and was one of only three batters to reach double figures. The Men in Green were eventually bowled out for just 91 in 18.4 overs.

In response, New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert built a 53-run partnership for the first wicket during the powerplay. Tim Robinson then played a quick cameo to wrap up the chase with more than nine overs to spare.

The second T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan is on Tuesday, March 18.
