On Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy 2024 game between India A and India B, the Shubman Gill-led side started well aiming to surpass India B’s first-inning score of 321. Musheer Khan’s splendid 181-run knock had put the Abhimanyu Easwaran side on a pedestal. Other than, Musheer, Navdeep Saini dazzled with his 56 runs batting at number 8.

Gill and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings for India A and put in 57 runs within 14 overs. Saini, who was spectacular with the bat, proved lethal with the ball as he dismantled Gill’s timber on the final ball of the 14th over. The right-arm pacer bowled a fuller delivery that pitched on a good length area and nipped in as Gill opted to leave the ball. The off stump rolled over with a thud sound leaving the skipper stunned as he walked back to the hut scoring just 25 runs.

Musheer played a sublime knock of 181 runs facing 373 deliveries and contributed more than 60 percent to India B’s total. For India A, Akash Deep dazzled with four wickets, while Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan chipped in with two wickets each. Barring Saini, another notable contribution from India B batters was that of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 30 runs. No other batter even crossed the 20-run mark.

Agarwal departs after a good start

The game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium will draw a lot of attention for another reason. Two of Bengaluru’s most celebrated cricketers, KL Rahul and Agarwal are playing for India A and the crowd is doubled for Day 2 in comparison with Day 1.

But the Bengaluru crowd will be waiting for more as Saini bowled the second over after Tea, and sent Agarwal packing. He bowled a down-the-leg delivery as the ball took a slight edge off the bat and traveled briskly away from Pant. The wicket-keeper batter dived towards his left and stretched both arms to grab the catch. The right-handed batter scored 36 off 45.
