Watch: Nathan Lyon searches for ball lost in bushes during Sheffield Shield game, video goes viral

An amusing incident occurred on Day 3 of the Sheffield Shield 2024 encounter between New South Wales and South Australia as ace Australian off-spinner, Nathan Lyon, was snapped searching for a lost ball in the bushes beyond the fence.

One of Travis Head’s maximums off Tanveer Sangha was obliterated so hard that it went way beyond the boundary ropes, over Lyon who was stationed in the deep. The 36-year-old stepped in the bushes in an attempt to retrieve the ball. Interestingly, he accidently found another ball, a white one though. Lyon was later joined by his teammates and some members of the groundstaff post which they were successful in their attempt to find the match ball.

Cricket Australia took to Instagram to share the videos and captioned the post quite humourously, which complemented the slides as well as Lyon’s on-field performance perfectly.

Talking about the match, after an adverse stay in the middle with the bat which saw Lyon depart for an 18-ball duck, the seasoned campaigner came back in the best possible fashion with the ball as he scalped yet another five-wicket haul in the domestic circuit, returning figures of 24.3-8-47-5. Lyon was at it again during a short eight-over burst to finish off the day after NSW declared their second innings, trapping opener Conor McInerney in front to leave SA on 7/1 after eight overs.

My prediction is 5-0 to Australia: Lyon

In a recent discussion, Lyon spoke on the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also provided a bold prediction in favour of the hosts.

“It’s been 10 years since we have won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. I started thinking about this series when England were over in India, watching them go about it. I love the game and I will watch a decent Test match but I have had eyes on this series for a long time now. My prediction is 5-0 to Australia,” Lyon told Alyssa Healy on the Willow Talk podcast.

With India winning the previous couple of BGTs in Australia and considering the current form of their red-ball side, it would be interesting to see how Australia would tackle the Indians during the five-match series.
