Watch: Nasser Hussain hilariously falls off his chair due to Chris Woakes ‘effect’

Pacer Chris Woakes turned an offspinner for England due to bad light affecting the third Test at The Oval while Sri Lanka were batting in their first innings. Consequently, this triggered a series of reactions on the ground as the sudden switch and finding a pacer bowling in a new avatar stumped everyone.

The reactions went viral when the former England skipper and mainstay Joe Root found it hilarious to see his teammate settling for bowling in a non-traditional style at which he was not that good in terms of skills. This was not just the end. In the balcony region, the injured regular Test captain Ben Stokes was spotted shell-shocked in utter disbelief on watching a frontline pacer having to bowl spin.

However, away from the field, a renowned commentator and former skipper Nasser Hussain’s reaction caught everyone off guard as it went viral like a wildfire spreading in a jungle. Notably, while another former England cricketer Michael Atherton was commentating while on air, confirmed the hilarious moment which transpired inside the commentary box. Hussain who was also on air, found the Woakes bowling spin moment like a ‘bolt from the blue’ and nearly ended up falling off his chair.

“In the commentary box, Nasser almost fell off his chair. The effect of Chris Woakes’ off-spin,” said Atherton while on air to inform the fans about the funny moment.

Though Nasser Hussain tumbling off his chair was not from the moment it was thought of. To have a comic moment during the Test, it was Atherton’s cunning prank with the idea of the latter feeling the bizarre effect of Woakes’ unusual bowling skills.

England wrap up Sri Lanka for 263 runs on Day 3

Meanwhile, speaking of the game, England wrapped up their first innings with 325 runs on Day two of the third Test. The stand-in skipper Ollie Pope turned out to be the best batter with a scintillating century (154 off 156 runs) which set the tone for the team and the hosts got to a respectable total on the board. Notably, Pope was under fire for not scoring runs after having handed leadership responsibilities in Stokes’ absence.

Despite that, England managed to remain dominant in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka and won the first two Tests quite convincingly. Currently, England lead by 97 runs in the eighth over of the second innings after two early jolts in the form of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope with the score reading 35/2. While Sri Lanka, earlier in the morning were wrapped up quickly as England pacers took the charge and bundled the visitors for 263 runs.
