Virat Kohli could not convert his start on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh but he entertained the fans who were watching the encounter from their homes as he engaged in a hilarious conversation with Shakib Al Hasan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, September 20.

The former India captain managed to score only 17 from 37 deliveries, after his run-a-ball six in the first innings but his exchange with Bangladesh legend Shakib Al Hasan went viral on social media.

Kohli was caught by the cameras and stumps mics, telling Shakib that Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud is consistently bowling yorkers, as if he is Lasith Malinga.

“Malinga bana, yorker pe yorker de raha hai (He is bowling yorkers like Lasith Malinga),” Kohli was heard saying in the video.

DRS error costs Virat Kohli his wicket

After getting off to a good start, it seemed as if Kohli would bat till the end of Day 2 and continue on the following day. However, he was trapped in front of the stumps by Mehidy Hasan Miraz at the fag end of Day 2. After having a brief conversation with non-striker Shubman Gill, the 35-year-old decided to take the long walk back to the pavilion without taking the DRS.

However, this turned out to be a massive error from Kohli as UltraEdge showed a spike as the ball was passing close to his bat. While the LBW decision looked fair to the naked eye, replays would have painted a completely different picture and the Delhi batter would have survived. India captain Rohit Sharma was also surprised on seeing the replays and he seemed frustrated with Kohli’s decision to not go for the DRS review.

Meanwhile, India has started Day 3 on a bright note as Gill and Rishabh Pant are unbeaten on 86 and 82, respectively at Lunch. The lead is already a substantial 432 and the two youngsters would want to up the scoring rate in the second session after getting to their respective centuries.
