[WATCH] Justin Langer answers call from reporter’s mother, updates on Mayank Yadav’s speedy recovery

Lucknow Super Giants registered a last-over win against Mumbai Indians in Match 16 of IPL 2025 at the Ekana Stadium on Friday, April 04. The credit went to their bowlers like Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan, who held their nerve to get the job done for the side in a match that went down to the wire, securing a 12-run victory against the Mumbai-based franchise.

Lucknow’s head coach Justin Langer appeared at a press conference after the game, and he seemed to be in a delightful mood, mostly because of the brilliant game play shown by his players. However, as media personnel started to ask questions, a phone call on a journalist’s phone distracted his attention over the query regarding their pacer Mayank Yadav’s injury, who is currently rehabilitating at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

Langer took the call, and even answered it on behalf of the reporter, confirming that he is attending a press conference, which lightened the mood of the media room. “Who’s Maa? Whose mum is ringing? Do you want me to answer? Mom, it’s 12:00 AM, I am at a press conference,” he jokingly said while answering the call, as per a video posted by IPL’s official social media handle.

Credit to NCA for Mayank’s recovery

Coming back to business, the 54-year-old quickly turned his head towards answering the question put forward on Mayank Yadav‘s status. The former Australia cricketer credited the National Cricket Academy (now known as BCCI Centre of Excellence) in getting the speedster up and ready. He confirmed that he was bowling at higher efficiency and a few more sessions in Bengaluru could mean that the board declares him fit to join the LSG set-up once again.

“Mayank’s up, he’s keen to get going. He bowled really well in Bangalore yesterday at the NCA. I think you have another couple of bowls and hopefully (he will be back). NCA, to their credit, have obviously done a very good job because they’ve got Avesh Khan back for us, they’ve got our Akash Deep back for us. So we really appreciate the work they’re doing to get the boys back playing and now hopefully Mayank as well,” Langer added.
