The whole of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was in for a massive surprise as star Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, made an appearance in rock band Coldplay’s final gig of the India concert on Sunday. The pacer was seen in the audience as cameras panned towards him with the lead vocalist, Chris Martin, dedicating a special song for him during the Republic Day concert.

“Jasprit, oh well Jasprit, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket! We do not enjoy watching you destroy England with wicket after wicket. Thank you Jasprit Bumrah. Love you, see you later!,” expressed Martin during the concluding phase of the concert, with the audience yelling at the top of their voices in enthusiasm.

The big screen at the stadium displayed a medley of a few of Bumrah’s wickets for India against England in last year’s five-match Test series which the hosts ended up winning by a 4-1 margin. Bumrah ended the series with 19 wickets under his belt in eight innings, averaging a spectacular 16.89.

Interestingly, Martin mentioned Bumrah’s name on stage last week at the band’s concert in Navi Mumbai. Days later, the superstar read a hilarious message from Bumrah’s lawyers about the unauthorised use of his name, leaving the fans at the venue in splits. A lot of Coldplay and Indian cricket fans were immersed in speculations about the ace cricketer’s appearance at the gig in Ahmedabad.

As of now, England’s white-ball unit is touring India for eight matches (five T20Is and three ODIs). Bumrah, who sustained a back injury during the final day of the recently-concluded tour Down Under, is reported to feature in India’s last ODI against England, subject to his fitness. The hosts have already secured a 2-0 lead against England by winning the games in Kolkata and Chennai.
