Ace Indian and Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketer, Virat Kohli, grooved along to the viral Jhoome Jo Pathaan from the Bollywood blockbuster, Pathaan, with the lead actor from the film and the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders during the opening ceremony of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League on Saturday, March 22.

The two powerhouses of their own industries came together and shook a leg during the event in Kolkata ahead of the tournament opener of IPL 2025 between KKR and RCB, respectively. The duo also exchanged a warm embrace after a few seconds of grooving to the song.

KKR and RCB are scheduled to take on each other at the former’s home venue to kickstart IPL 2025. This marks the second instance of an IPL opener being played between the two sides – the first coming in the inaugural edition of the marquee T20 tournament in 2008, a match which was utterly dominated by the SRK-owned franchise by a whopping 140 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

As many as 18 seasons have gone by since then. While KKR have clinched three titles, RCB are yet to get off the mark on that front. KKR emerged as winners of IPL 2024, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to wrap up a dominant campaign in truly spectacular fashion. As for RCB, an inspiring second-half of the season made them pip Chennai Super Kings to a fourth-place finish. However, they fell short in the Eliminator.

The two sides are being led by Ajinkya Rahane and Rajat Patidar. This will be the first time for Rahane and Patidar to be leading KKR and RCB, respectively. While Patidar has spent three seasons with RCB, this will be the second one for Rahane who was not retained after the 2022 edition.
