MS Dhoni displayed his fast reflexes as a gloveman by getting rid of Phil Salt with a calculative stumping in the Southern Derby game of the IPL 2025. The 43-year-old took the bails off exactly when Salt’s foot was in the air. Noor Ahmad and Dhoni’s collective efforts helped CSK to dismiss dangerous-looking Salt.

RCB had a good start in the powerplay, thanks to Salt’s fiery start. While Virat Kohli took some time and tried to get set, Salt hammered the bowlers for fun. CSK desperately needed a wicket, and that’s when Dhoni and Noor produced magic. Ahmad pitched the ball up and invited the right-handed batter to drive him.

Watch MS Dhoni’s calculated stumping here:

Phil went for a fancy drive but ended up missing the ball completely. The wicketkeeper collected the ball and took the bails off exactly when Salt’s foot was in the air. Dhoni and Gaikwad made the decision upstairs. For naked eyes, it wasn’t an easy decision to be made. Upon seeing replays and various angles, the third umpire came to a decision.

Devdutt Padikkal plays a fine cameo before getting dismissed

The crowd went crazy as CSK drew the first blood. It was yet another night where Dhoni’s brilliant glovework helped CSK to dismiss a key batter of the opposition. Ahmad claimed the fifth wicket of the season. More importantly, it was Salt’s wicket, who won RCB their game against KKR and scored 32(16) before getting dismissed against CSK.

What followed was a good cameo from Devdutt Padikkal. The Southpaw continued to up RCB’s ante with his aggressive bit of knock in the middle. Padikkal scored 27 runs in 14 balls, which included 2 fours and sixes each at a strike rate of 192.86.

After losing Salt’s wicket, Devdutt’s cameo helped RCB to maintain their run rate. Against the run of play, the RCB batter threw away his wicket. Virat Kohli continued to struggle with the ball, which put pressure on the batters at the other end. After the end of the 9th over, RCB found themselves at 83/2 with Virat and Rajat Patidar in the middle.
