Virat Kohli’s form has been one of the major talking points in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The legendary batter is going through a tough phase in his career, especially in red-ball cricket this season where he has been averaging only 25.06 so far. Amidst those discussions, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has disclosed an unknown story of Kohli from India’s tour of England in 2018.

“Virat, I mean, everything he’s been through, the times he’s not been in good form, some insights that Anushka shared with me, about his mindset. I think it was a Nottingham Test [Birmingham, 2018] where India had lost, and she said she didn’t attend that game that day. She came back, she didn’t know where Virat was, and she came to the room and saw him laid down, literally crying,” Varun said on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, ‘The Ranveer Show’.

Notably, India had won the Nottingham Test, the third of the five-match series, by 203 runs, with Kohli bagging the Player of the Match award for his scores of 97 and 103. Dhawan ended up recalling wrong and was instead referring to the first Test of that series, which India lost by 31 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham despite Kohli’s spectacular 149 and 51 across the two innings.

“He [Kohli] took the whole thing on himself that I failed when he was still the highest scorer that day, he was the captain of the side that day,” Varun added.

Virat’s record at the MCG and SCG

The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has not been the best for Kohli barring his knock in the second innings in Perth, where he scored an unbeaten 100. He got scores of 7 and 11 in the pink-ball Test Adelaide while he scored just three runs in the only innings he batted in Brisbane.

The last two Tests of the series are set to be played in Melbourne and Sydney, where the former India skipper has an impressive record. Kohli has 316 runs in three matches at the MCG at an average of 52.66 with a highest score of 169 while his record in Sydney is equally impressive with 248 runs at an average of 49.60.

He would want to get back to scoring runs at these two venues as this will be a great opportunity for both him and the team to find their form back.
