Pakistan took on England in the first Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. On Day 3, England’s Harry Brook was lucky enough to survive a potential dismissal. Brook joined Joe Root in the middle after the dismissal of Ben Duckett. The duo put up Tons as England piled runs at the rate of five runs per over.

Brook was batting on 75 when Aamer Jamal bowled a fuller delivery which was defended by the batter. The ball pitched and popped back to hit the helmet before ricocheting to the stumps. The friction of the ball was hampered and its pace depreciated as it moved towards the stumps to hit it. The bails were intact as Brook tried stopping the ball and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Here’s the video of the incident:

Speaking of Root, the veteran created a record by becoming the highest run-getter for England, when he reached the score of 70-odd runs. He surpassed the former England skipper, Alastair Cook’s run tally of 12,472 runs. He did not stop there and went on to notch up his 35th Test Ton. With that century, he even overtook legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 Test centuries. He also surpassed other legends like Mahela Jayawardene, Brian Lara, and Younis Khan in the process.

Selflessness that he has is an incredible attribute for him: Stokes

The 33-year-old is in great form as he scored two centuries in the Lord’s Test against Sri Lanka before England arrived in Pakistan. It is worth noting that, after having debuted for England in whites, the right-handed batter has averaged less than 40 just once over 12 calendar years. After his monumental innings, England captain, Ben Stokes heaped praises on Root’s selflessness.

“The selflessness that he has is an incredible attribute for him. He always puts the team first, and the fact that he’s got so many runs is just a bonus for us. He’s an incredible player. It’s going to take a long, long time for someone to come in and break that record. Just a great bloke. And an unbelievable feat to score that many runs,” said Stokes in a video uploaded by ECB.
