Watch: Fans left perplexed as off-spinner bowls magical delivery to dismiss batter

The KCC T20 Challengers Trophy 2024 clash between Kuwaiti Nationals and SBS CC saw a mind-boggling moment when Muhammad Waqar Anjum’s abundantly flighted off-spin delivery completely caught batter Beant Singh off guard with the amount of turn it purchased off the surface.

Anjum, who was representing Kuwaiti Nationals, bowled with a run-up similar to legendary Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh, and tossed the ball a long way above the eye line of Singh. The ball pitched way outside off-stump, very close to the wide line, and turned back viciously into the batter and hit the leg-stump. Singh, who tried to get inside the line in an attempt to hit the ball towards the leg side, could not even go through with the shot.

Anjum was quite calm in his celebration after picking up the wicket. Meanwhile, the wicketkeeper sported a cheeky smile as he walked towards the bowler to congratulate him. The video of this unique dismissal did not take much time to get viral on social media. The cricket fraternity has been in awe of the delivery and some have even called it the new ball of the century. Some fans have pointed out the uniqueness of Anjum’s bowling action, comparing it to some sort of a dance move.

In 1993, the late great Shane Warne forced the world to sit up and take note of his sensational talent by bowling one of the most unplayable deliveries to get the better of England batter Mike Gatting. The ball pitched outside leg-stump and spun sharply to rattle Gatting’s off-stump. This delivery was later labelled as the ball of the century. Since then, the game of cricket has seen several instances of spinners bamboozling the batters with deliveries that have spun remarkable distances. However, Warne’s magical delivery, which he bowled over three decades ago, still holds a special place in the hearts of cricket enthusiasts.
