Following a four-ball duck in the maiden international outing, India trusted in Abhishek Sharma for another go during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday, July 07. Abhishek didn’t disappoint at all, as the southpaw registered his first-ever international century in India colours, reaching the landmark in 46 deliveries. As a result, the youngster made a strong comeback from his shameful debut game.

Abhishek’s family, regularly seen supporting the all-rounder from the stands during the Indian Premier League 2024, celebrated the joyous moment from their home, as the video of the same went viral on social media. His sister Komal shared the clip of their celebration on social media, and also stated that it is the proudest moment for the entire family so far.

“Dream to reality. The first century celebrations of Abhishek Sharma for India. The most proud moment for us,” she captioned the post on X.

After a landmark moment, the youngster also had a video call with his mentor and veteran cricketer Yuvraj Singh. BCCI shared a post, where the duo was seen having a candid chat after the game, and Yuvraj was seen expressing a proud moment for the fellow Punjab cricketer.

Speaking more about the match, Abhishek partnered with Ruturaj Gaikwad to overcome the pressure after India lost their captain Shubman Gill early in the innings. The tall 137-run stand for the second wicket also saw Abhishek reach his first T20I century, becoming the tenth Indian cricketer to do so. Ruturaj also scored 77 off 47 balls, while attacking batter Rinku Singh added the finishing touch with his 48* off 22 balls, as the score reached 234/2 after 20 overs.

Zimbabwe were never really into the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. The Indian bowlers didn’t let the opposition batters loose, and bundled them out for 134 in 18.4 overs, as the Men in Blue sealed the deal by 100 runs, levelling the series 1-1 after two games.
