India won their second T20 World Cup trophy after outclassing South Africa in the finals of the 2024 edition on June 29. Rohit Sharma led India to a seven-run victory in a closely contested game. This was Rohit’s first ICC trophy as a captain after coming close twice. He lost to Australia in the finals of the World Test Championship 2023 and the same opponent thwarted him in the World Cup 2023 final. After the win, the 37-year-old was ecstatic and his child-like demeanor was on display.

As India boarded their flight back home from Barbados, Rohit was in a playful mood all through the flight as captured in videos. After 16 hours of long travel, when the Indian team landed in Delhi, the enthusiasm was at par as the India opener was seen showing the trophy to fans sticking his tongue out. He was also seen dancing to the Bhangra tunes on arrival at the ITC Maurya Hotel in Delhi.

I believe that what’s written in destiny will happen: Rohit

Rohit has been at the forefront of leading India to the ICC silverware after a hiatus of 11 years. The team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and became the first team to clinch the trophy by remaining undefeated in the T20 World Cup. The right-handed batter was the top scorer for the team and played a surreal knock of 92 runs in just 41 balls against Australia. After the title win, Rohit said that it was destined that India were about to become champions.

“Yes, it’s necessary, I believe that what’s written in destiny will happen, I think this was written, but obviously no one knew it’s written, that’s the game, otherwise we would have come casually and said it’s written, we’ll win everything, but I think everything has to fall in place,” said Rohit in the post-match press conference.
