On Day 4 of the Duleep Trophy Match 3 game between India A and India D, Shams Mulani bowled a sneaky delivery to dismiss Devdutt Padikkal. Playing for India D, the southpaw had gotten into the groove with a 92-run knock in the first innings, however, he was undone by the left-arm spinner for just one run in the fourth innings.
Padikkal struggled with deliveries skidding onto the pads. He was cautious in the first innings as his off-side play dominated his run-scoring. He anticipated stepping into the same mould on Day 4, but as Indian pitches become chameleons as the game goes on, Mulani got enough to turn and bounce as the ball snuck into space Padikkal provided while attempting to work the ball on the off-side.
Here’s the video of Padikkal’s dismissal:

Padikkal snubbed from Bangladesh series
Padikkal missed out on a berth in the Indian squad for the Bangladesh series. The batter proved his mettle in Ranji Trophy 2024 amassing 556 runs in just six innings at a sensational average of 92.67, including three centuries and a highest score of 193 against Punjab.
The 24-year-old is coming off a decent season in Maharaja Trophy 2024, where he scored 253 runs at an average of 25.30. But his strike rate of 140.56 was welcoming for a batter who is pushed down to the middle-order. The Karnataka batter was impressive against England in his debut series in Tests, in March this year. He batted in the first innings of the fifth Test and scored 65 runs batting at number four.
