Australia and England squared off in a blockbuster clash of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jos Butler, the English captain, won the toss and invited the Aussies to bat first.
Australia failed to make a solid start in their innings, losing wickets at regular intervals. The five-time champions did, however, manage to accumulate runs at a healthy run rate on the sluggish surface. Green, who came at the crease at No. 6 with Australia reeling at 117/4, scored 47 off 52 balls. The star all-rounder also stitched a crucial 61-stand with Marnus Labuschagne (71 off 83).
When facing England quick Mark Wood, Green tried to pull the ball, but he missed the shot. Meanwhile, he lost his hold on the bat as both the bat and ball were seen parted in the air at the same time, and the flying bat nearly hit the square-leg umpire, Chris Gaffaney. Three English fielders, including Wood, chased to get the ball landed between the approaching fielders, preventing them from catching it.
