Australia and England squared off in a blockbuster clash of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jos Butler, the English captain, won the toss and invited the Aussies to bat first.

Australia failed to make a solid start in their innings, losing wickets at regular intervals. The five-time champions did, however, manage to accumulate runs at a healthy run rate on the sluggish surface. Green, who came at the crease at No. 6 with Australia reeling at 117/4, scored 47 off 52 balls. The star all-rounder also stitched a crucial 61-stand with Marnus Labuschagne (71 off 83).

When facing England quick Mark Wood, Green tried to pull the ball, but he missed the shot. Meanwhile, he lost his hold on the bat as both the bat and ball were seen parted in the air at the same time, and the flying bat nearly hit the square-leg umpire, Chris Gaffaney. Three English fielders, including Wood, chased to get the ball landed between the approaching fielders, preventing them from catching it.

Australia knock England out of ODI World Cup 2023

Australia, captained by Pat Cummins, staged an all-round performance to overcome England in the World Cup match in Ahmedabad by a margin of 33 runs. Australia scored a formidable 286 runs after being asked to bat first, thanks to a crucial half-century from Marnus Labuschagne. England, meanwhile, only managed to gather 253 in reply, despite Dawid Malan (50) and Ben Stokes (64) both scoring vital half-centuries. Notably, the result knocked the reigning champions out of the semi-final race.

Adam Zampa, who took three wickets and let up just 21 runs in his quota was adjudged as Player of the Match. The ace leg-spinner contributed significantly with the bat as well. The 31-year-old came to bat when Australia were reduced to 241-7 in 43.4 overs. He hit a 29 off 19, which enabled Australia to put up an adequate score. Meanwhile, Chris Woakes was crucial for the Jos Buttler-led side, as he claimed a four-wicket haul.
