On Day 1 of the second Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval, during the latter’s first innings, Mohammed Siraj’s frustration was visible when Aussie batter Marnus Labuschagne pulled out of his stance just before the fifth delivery of the 25th over. This interruption saw Siraj throw the ball towards the stumps in irritation.

Labuschagne’s abrupt withdrawal was triggered by movement near the sight screen. A spectator carrying multiple cups wandered behind the bowler, entering the batter’s eyeline at a critical moment. The distraction was evident, and Labuschagne decided to pull out at the correct time. However, Siraj, already mid-way in his run-up, failed to notice the reason for the batter’s reaction. In anger, he threw the ball just wide of the stumps and gave a frustrating reaction.

Meanwhile, in the match after opting to bat first, India was bundled out for 180 in just over 44 overs, with Mitchell Starc being the wrecker in chief with the ball. The left-arm pacer claimed six wickets, dismantling the visitor’s top and lower orders. Contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy (42) and KL Rahul (37) did help the side going past the 150-run mark.

In reply, Australia began their innings cautiously. Premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthrough by dismissing opener Usman Khawaja for 13, leaving the hosts at 24/1. However, Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship, as Australia’s score stood at 77/1 at the end of 30 overs. With a trailing deficit of 103 runs, the hosts are well-placed in the game.
