A gritty knock by Rest of India’s Abhimanyu Easwaran came to an unfortunate end as the right-handed opener fell nine runs shy of his double-ton on Day 4 of the Irani Cup game between Mumbai and Rest of India at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. 

Starting Day 4 on a score of 151, Easwaran looked all set for his fourth first-class 200. However, it was not to be as he top-edged Shams Mulani to fellow Tanush Kotian at short fine-leg. Easwaran, distraught with what he had done, smashed his willow on the pitch while trudging back to the pavillion.

Meanwhile, Easwaran wasn’t the only batter to have missed out on a milestone as a couple of overs before his dismissal, Dhruv Jurel gloved Mulani to wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore.

Saransh Jain’s four-for keeps ROI in hunt

The manner in which Mumbai’s second innings got underway was looking ominous for Rest of India. Prithvi Shaw’s domestic return was not a fruitful one in the first innings, but he made amends in the second as he stroked his way to a classical half-century.

A collapse ensued as Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain spun a web around Mumbai. Jain ended the day with a four-wicket haul, and much would depend on him if Rest of India want to pull off an upset on Day 5 of the game.
