Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer recently came forward to express his confidence in the Indian team and their ability to secure a third consecutive Test series win against Australia. He opined that if the pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah can stay fit throughout the series, India will have a great chance of winning the series.
With many fans looking forward to it, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin at the Perth Stadium on November 22. The Indian team will be hopeful of a good showing once again, as they have won the last two series in Australia in 2018–19 and 2020–21.
Hosting a Q&A session on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jaffer was asked by a fan about who would win the upcoming BGT 2024–25. Replying to the query, the former India cricketer named youngster Mayank Yadav as one of the prospective selections in the Indian squad.
While opining that Arshdeep Singh could bring forth a good left-arm pacer option, Mayank Yadav was branded as the dark horse of the side by Jaffer. “If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he’s fit and available,” Jaffer tweeted.

Currently, India and Australia are the top two sides in the World Test Championship standings and the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be crucial for both teams regarding their position in the table. Both sides faced off in the summit clash of the WTC 2023, where the Aussies came out on top and won the title.
As preparation for the series, India will begin their home Test season by hosting Bangladesh for a two-Test series next month. Furthermore, India will also be taking on New Zealand across three Tests before leaving for Australia.
