India all-rounder Washington Sundar had a fantastic time against Zimbabwe in the third T20I in Harare. He picked up three key wickets of Sikandar Raza, Jonathan Campbell, and Clive Madande by giving away 15 runs in his four overs, which helped the visitors win the match by 23 runs.

Washington was adjudged Player of the Match, which should give him a great deal of confidence. The 24-year-old was never a regular in the Indian team, as the selectors preferred Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel over him. However, after Jadeja’s retirement from the shortest format of the game, there’s room for Washington to cement his position in the T20I squad.

The Chennai-born cricketer however isn’t focused on taking up Jadeja’s role but is ready to give 100% whenever the national team needs him. He wants to prepare well and be there for the team whenever required.

“I need to do well where I am good at and what I am capable of, especially with my preparation. I need to give my 100 percent every single day. That’s something that I have not compromised on,” Washington said in the post-match press conference when asked about Jadeja’s vacant spot.

Sundar aims to keep up with the momentum

Nitish Reddy was favoured ahead of Sundar by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. Keeping everything in mind, Washington wants to keep his feet grounded and work hard on his game to get better. He aims to become more consistent and expects other things to fall in line with good performances.

“It (preparing well) keeps me in the present and obviously I am very confident as well (about his skills). It’s a great opportunity for me to play for India, and I am blessed with it. I need to keep doing my job consistently, keep preparing, and keep getting better. That way everything will be taken care of,” Sundar said.
