Sussex took on Hampshire in a critical South Group clash of the ongoing Vitality Blast 2024 at the County Ground in Hove on June 10. Hampshire skipper James Vince called it correctly at the toss and elected to field first. Surrey suffered a huge blow as their opener Daniel Hughes walked back to the pavilion without adding a run to the team’s scorecard. Harrison Ward (39 off 20) and Tom Clark (37 off 26) stitched an important partnership to take the team out of a tricky position.

James Coles (46 off 33), Tom Alsop (35 off 17), and Danny Lamb (22 of 13) played some important knocks in the middle overs and kept their side’s hope alive in pursuit of posting a huge total. Nathan McAndrew played a small 13-run cameo in the end, as Sussex ended their innings on 200/7 in their allotted 20 overs. James Fuller and Brad Wheal scalped two wickets each, along with Liam Dawson and Chris Wood picking one wicket, respectively.

In reply, Hampshire got off to a terrible start as they lost Ben McDermott and Tom Prest in the first two overs, with the score standing at 8/2. Skipper Vince (32 off 22) then partnered up with Joe Weatherley (34 off 23) to stabilize the innings and get the side back in the hunt.

Both Toby Albert (27 off 15) and Benny Howell (32 off 17) played quickfire knocks after losing their in-form batters. But a lower-order collapse proved costly for the side as they were bundled out for 178 runs as none of the batters could stay too long at the crease and lost the game by 22 runs. James Coles was the pick of the bowlers, picking four wickets.

Durham will take on Kent in their next game at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury on July 12. On the other hand, Hampshire will take on Gloucestershire at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on July 12.
