Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are playing against each other in a must-win IPL 2024 game at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bangalore.

In match 68 of the tournament, after being asked to bat first, RCB got off to a good start as captain Faf du Plessis and former captain and star batter Virat Kohli provided a steady beginning, scoring 78 for the first wicket before Kohli was dismissed. He tried to hit Mitchell Santner for back-to-back sixes but was caught on the boundary line after scoring 47 off 29 balls with three fours and four sixes.

However, the interesting moment of the game came in the 13th over, bowled by Santner. There was an appeal for a run-out at the bowler’s end. The third umpire took a look. The ball was tossed up, and Rajat Patidar drilled it back at the bowler. Santner got a fingertip to it, causing a deviation. Was du Plessis’ bat in the air?

Umpire Michael Gough had several looks and concluded that the bat was indeed in the air. He then verified if Santner got a touch, which he did, and UltraEdge confirmed it. He looked surprised, shrugged his head, and walked back to the dugout. It was a wicket out of nowhere, and the CSK section of the crowd went berserk with joy.

Before the game, RCB captain du Plessis expressed a preference for fielding first but noted their recent success batting first. He acknowledged that losing the toss isn’t ideal but emphasized their confidence from the last five games. He appreciated playing the final league match in front of their fans before the knockout stage and stated that they are taking it one step at a time and doing their best.

“We would have fielded as well, but we put up a good score when we batted first last. Losing the toss isn’t ideal, but we’ll take a lot of confidence from the last 5 games. The set-up is great, last match before the knockout stage, the scenario is nicely set up and we’re happy to play our last league game in front of our fans. Not thinking a lot, we’ll take it as it comes and do our best,” he said during the toss.
