Virat Kohli moves to fourth in ODI rankings after match-winning semi-final performance

India batter Virat Kohli has risen to the fourth position in the ICC ODI batters’ rankings following his 84-run knock in the semi-final against Australia. Earlier, against Pakistan, Kohli scored an unbeaten 100 in a group-stage match. Ibrahim Zadran, Afghanistan’s opening batter, was another major mover, rising 13 spots to 10th following his stellar 177 against England.

Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai has climbed to the top of the ODI allrounders’ rankings, overtaking his teammate Mohammad Nabi, after an excellent performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Regardless of Afghanistan failing to reach the semi-finals, Omarzai’s individual performance did shine throughout.

Across three matches, he bagged seven wickets, which includes a match-winning 5/58 against England. When it comes to his batting, Omarzai scored 126 runs at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 104.13.

His impeccable all-round display flung him two spots higher in the rankings list, now holding a four-point lead over Nabi. Adding on to it, Omarzai made crucial strides in the ODI batting rankings, rising 12 places to 24th.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill maintains the top spot, followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam and South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen. Rohit Sharma slipped down two places to fifth.

In the bowling department, New Zealand’s Matt Henry climbed three steps to third, joining Maheesh Theekshana and Keshav Maharaj in the top 3. Mohammed Shami, making his comeback from injury, moved up three spots to 11th.

Shami and Henry, at this point, share the top position as the Champions Trophy’s highest wicket-takers, each having taken eight wickets, ahead of the New Zealand-South Africa semi-final.

Meanwhile, after his stellar knock against Australia, Kohli provided a sneak peak into his mindset and love for batting.

“I just love playing the game man. I just love batting. As long as the joy of batting and the love for batting is alive, then all the other things kind of take care of themselves. Do not go into a desperate situation and put your head down. And just keep working towards what the team wants. More often than not, you’ll have results like these,” Kohli told BCCI.
